Joe Nathan, RHP, closer
|
| |
Nathan is a hard thrower from upstate New York. His fastball sits in the mid-90s and is unhittable at times. Nathan uses a tight slider that dives under bats. His third pitch is a hard 12-6 curveball. Nathan used to throw an occasional changeup, and may still mix that in. 6/2/08 CSJ

Brian Bass, RHP, reliever
|
| |
Bass throws a moving 2-seamer and a tight slider. He also features a standard slow curveball and a sinking changeup. Bass has a strong build that has thrown hundreds of minor league innings. 6/24/08 CSJ
*fastball(88-94), slider(85-89), curveball(76-80), changeup(83-85)

Jesse Crain, RHP, reliever
|
| |
Crain has survived some injuries to come back with the same great stuff. His fastball explodes on hitters and his curveball breaks hard. Crain's third pitch is a very tight slider that can touch 90mph. 6/2/08 CSJ
*fastball(92-96), curve(75-79), slider(89-91)

Nick Blackburn, RHP, starter
|
| |
Blackburn throws a good sinking 2-seamer and a tight slider. He backs those up with a slow curve and the occasional changeup to LHs. Blackburn can also crank up his Oklahoman 4-seamer to 95mph. 6/2/08 CSJ
*fastball(89-95), slider(83-89), curve(73-76), change(80-83)

Glen Perkins, LHP, starter
|
| |
Perkins is a Minnesota guy. He went to high school and college in Minnesota, becoming a 1st round draft pick of the Twins. And now he pitches for the Twins, in Minnesota. His pitching motion is free and easy, producing a low-90s lefthanded fastball. He uses a sweeping slider and a straight changeup as secondary pitches. He'll use these two pitches in typical fashion, that is slider to LHs and changeup to RHs. He has shown that he'll mix this strategy up once or twice a game though. Earlier in the season, Perkins showed a slower breaking ball in the 70s, but I didn't see one in his 8/11 start. 8/15/08 CSJ
*fastball(88-93), slider(81-85), changeup(79-85), curve(75-77)

Matt Guerrier, RHP, reliever
|
| |
Guerrier relies heavily on his breaking stuff. He has a slider that gets a ton of movement in the mid-80s and a big curve in the upper 70s. His fastball is anywhere from 89-95. A rare changeup rounds out his repertoire. 6/24/08 CSJ
*fastball(89-95), slider(84-87), curve(77-81), changeup(82-85)

Boof Bonser, RHP, starter/reliever
|
| |
Boof is that guy who thought his stupid nickname should be his official name. So, in 2001, he officially changed his name to Boof. Unfortunately, the namechange coincided with the time his elite prospect status began to fade. His arm is still live, but he can't seem to produce results. His fastball gets some movement at times, and he likes to break off two different spinners. His curveball sits around 80mph, while his slider can be extra-sharp in the upper-80s. Bonser's fourth pitch is a changeup. 6/24/08 CSJ
*fastball(91-96), curve(76-83), slider(85-90), changeup(83-87)

|
Craig Breslow, LHP, reliever
|
| |
Breslow was an Ivy Leaguer in college and now a waiver wire pickup by the Twins. He throws a 90mph fastball and an upper-80s cutter. The lefty throws a sweeping curve and a change as well. 6/24/08 CSJ
*fastball(87-93), cutter(82-89), curve(71-78), changeup(74-77)
|
|
Dennys Reyes, LHP, reliever
|
| |
Reyes used to bring all kinds of cutters and slop to the mound. Now, strictly as a reliever, he throws a fastball, slider, and changeup. His velocities may vary on these pitches depending on the outing. The changeup often flies in only a few MPH slower than the fastball. 6/24/08 CSJ
*fastball(89-91), slider(82-87), changeup(83-87)
|
|
Kevin Slowey, RHP, starter
|
| |
Slowey mixes a moving fastball with two breaking pitches. He'll often feature his slider, which breaks tightly away from RHs. His curveball is the standard mid-70s pitch. Slowey also shows a sinking changeup. He'll never overpower a hitter with velocity. 7/23/08 CSJ
*fastball(88-91), slider(84-87), curve(73-76), changeup(81-85)
