Brad Penny, RHP, starter
Penny is a big, ugly dude. He throws a low-mid 90s fastball that he moves in and out. His breaking ball is a hard 12-6 curve. Penny uses a splitter as his offspeed pitch, to LHs or RHs. Known as a smack-talking oxen, he seems to have calmed his antics, and his delivery down, which may help to keep him healthier. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(89-96), curve(73-81), splitter(82-87)

Takashi Saito, RHP, closer
Saito is a breaking ball pitcher. He constantly throws sliders and curves with amazing command. He'll throw them for strikes, or out of the zone to try and get hitters to chase. His fastball is low-mid 90s and gets good movement. He may mix in changeups to LHs. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(92-95), slider(82-85), curveball(79-81), changeup(83)

Hiroki Kuroda, RHP, starter
Hiroki's delivery looks a lot like his teammate, Takashi Saito's. They both have a smooth motion which the ball flies out of. Kuroda throws a fastball/splitter combo to LHs. His split has high velocity, often resembling a 2-seam fastball. For breaking pitches, Kuroda throws a slider and curveball. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(90-95), splitter(84-89), slider(82-86), curve(78-81)

Hong-Chi Kuo, LHP, starter/reliever
Kuo is known for his dominant velocity and his sketchy command. He has the ability to stikeout batters in bunches as a starter or reliever. However, the chances are almost equal that he will walk the park instead. His fastball is a mid-90s pitch, and he breaks off two spinners. His curve is a big pitch that he slows his arm down to throw. Kuo's slider is sharp in the mid-80s. Kuo has shown changeups in the past. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(92-98), curve(76-81), slider(86-89), changeup(85-87)

Jonathan Broxton, RHP, reliever
The heavy-legged Jon Broxton brings it. His fastball is often in the mid-upper 90s and his slider can be impossible in the upper-80s. He will mix in the occasional changeup. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(95-100), slider(87-90), changeup

Joe Beimel, LHP, reliever
Beimel is just a dumb lefty. He throws an average fastball, a hard changeup, and a big slider. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(85-92), slider(75-77), changeup

Chad Billingsley, RHP, starter
Billingsley is a fastball/breaking ball pitcher. He has a good arm, pumping in fastballs in the low-90s. He mixes in many tight sliders that he varies considerably. He can throw his slider with a standard break, and then tighten it up to bust LHs inside. Billingsley likes to start batters off by dropping in his curveball to get ahead. Chad's fourth pitch is his rarely used changeup. 5/24/08 CSJ

*fastball(88-93), slider(81-90), curve(72-78), changeup(82-84)

Scott Proctor, RHP, reliever
Proctor is a 4-pitch reliever. He throws a very good fastball, then mixes in two different breaking pitches. He has a hard slider and a 12-6 curveball. Proctor also throws a changeup, usually to LH hitters. Proctor almost got away from Joe Torre's overuse of him, until Torre took the manager's job in LA. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(91-95), slider(84-85), curve(75), changeup(85)

Chan Ho Park, RHP, starter/reliever
Park throws the same repertoire he always has. He tries to get his low-90s fastball moving as much as possible. Then he mixes in his slider and slow curve. Lastly, Park has a soft changeup. 2001 saw Park's last successful season. 5/27/08 CSJ

*fastball(90-95), slider(85-88), curve(70-80), changeup(85)

Derek Lowe, RHP, starter
D-Lowe is a sinkerballer. He continually spots his 2-seamer low in the zone or in the dirt to get groundballs. Lowe will also use a slider to either side of the plate. The slider is a sharp pitch that he'll use often. Lowe also owns a changeup that will usually move like his fastball, and be only a few MPH slower. Lowe may drop in a slow curveball now and then. He also used to mix in the occasional cutter, but it looks like he has morphed his old curve and cutter together into one slider. 6/24/08 CSJ

*fastball(87-90), slider(81-84), changeup(84-85)

Cory Wade, RHP, reliever
Wade is not a hard thrower, but he has a good curveball and changeup. His curve is a big breaker, a real 12-6er. Wade's changeup gets good deception. 6/24/08 CSJ

*fastball(86-91), curve(73-78), changeup(80-83)

Clayton Kershaw, LHP, starter
The Phenom, Clayton Kershaw, deals a low-mid 90s fastball that could be dominant coming from the leftside. He also throws a big, hard, hammer of a curveball and has shown a straight changeup. At only 20 years old, the Texan still has lots of time to improve. 6/24/08 CSJ

*fastball(91-95), curve(71-74), changeup(86)

Greg Maddux, RHP, starter
Maddux mostly uses three pitches, a fastball, changeup, and cutter. His fastball gets tons of movement towards his armside. He still has great command of the pitch and will try and paint corners, inside and outside. Off of his fastball he'll use his dropping changeup. The changeup seems to get some natural cut, not tailing like the fastball. His third main pitch seems to be his cutter, which he'll primarily use inside to LHs. The pitch doesn't move a ton, but it's enough to throw off a batter looking for the tailing fastball. Maddux also throws a very slow curveball, averaging about one per start. 5/6/08 CSJ
