Roy Halladay, RHP, starter
|
| |
Halladay has a great fastball that runs in to RHs and away from LHs considerably. His best pitch is a cutter that gets subtle movement, but he'll consistently jam LHs and induce weak hits off the end of RHs bats with it. He'll use his cutter as often as he uses his 2-seamer. 'Doc' Halladay's breaking ball is a curve that he can spot well. His fourth pitch is a changeup that he throws with equally great command. Halladay doesn't rack up Ks, but he's a great 'finesse' pitcher that will pile up quality innings. 8/30/08 CSJ

A.J. Burnett, RHP, starter
|
| |
AJ Burnett is a power pitcher. He owns a fastball that sits at 94-95mph and can hit the upper 90s. His second pitch is a hard curveball, great for getting Ks. This spring he injured a fingernail which prevented him from throwing his curveball. Instead he concentrated on his changeup, which AJ has always thrown as his third pitch. Now the changeup gets decent sink and tailing action. His delivery also looks different, he appears more relaxed and fluid. Staying healthy is Burnett's biggest problem, maybe his new delivery will help. His stuff can be dominant, but not from the DL. 3/30/08 CSJ

Dustin McGowan, RHP, starter
|
| |
McGowan's stuff is sick. He owns a mid-90s fastball that bores in on RHs. Off of his fastball, McGowan will throw a tight slider that hits 90mph. He also has good break on a 12-6 curveball and he'll throw a straight changeup. He is a young pitcher, and still learning what he can do on the mound. 3/30/08 CSJ

B.J. Ryan, LHP, closer
|
| |
B.J. has made himself into one of the better relief pitchers in baseball. He deals a sneaky fastball and will consistently pound that pitch into the strikezone. He uses a sharp, sweeping slider to get Ks, but hasn't shown me a changeup in a long time. 8/30/08 CSJ

Brian Tallet, LHP, reliever
|
| |
Tallet relies on his fastball and cutter. He has average velocity, clocking in around the upper-80s with both pitches. He'll also show a straight changeup to RHs. Tallet seems to have found a niche as a middle reliever. 4/3/08 CSJ

Jeremy Accardo, RHP, reliever
|
| |
Accardo predominately uses his fastball/splitter combination. He has good velocity and movement on his fastball that bores in on RHs. Accardo's bread and butter is a split-finger pitch that dives under bats. Occasionally he will mix in some sliders, usually to RHs. 4/3/08 CSJ
