Jeremy Guthrie, RHP, starter
Guthrie has good command of his four pitches. He can paint the corners with a fastball that bores in on RHs. He can also throw a 4-seamer that seems to cut in on LHs. The former Stanford Cardinal can maintain his velocity deep into games. In 2008, he has mixed his fastballs with a good straight changeup that deceives hitters. For breaking pitches, he'll drop in slow curves in the low-70s and a standard slider. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(89-97), changeup(84-88), curve(72-75), slider(81-87)

Daniel Cabrera, RHP, starter
Cabrera has been a project for years. He has one of the best pure arms in baseball, but has never been able to harness any control of his pitches. He can throw mid-upper 90s with his fastball and drop in hard breaking curves in the low-80s. Cabrera will also try a few changeups. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(88-95), curve(75-82), changeup(79-82)

Garrett Olson, LHP, starter
Olson relies on his curveball often, to both LHs and RHs. His fastball sits around 88mph and is very hittable. The lefty's third pitch is his changeup that he'll show to RHs. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(87-91), curve(78-82), changeup(79-82)

Dennis Sarfate, RHP, reliever
Sarfate is a hard thrower. His 4-seamer routinely touches 95mph. Sarfate will drop in a big, hard curveball that can buckle knees. He'll also bounce in some changeups. 8/11/08 CSJ

*fastball(91-96), curve(77-80), changeup(81-83)

Brian Burress, LHP, starter
Burress attacks hitters with an average, moving fastball, and a tight slider. He likes throwing the slider inside to RHs and away from LHs. Burress uses a big curveball as well, often dropping that in for strike one. A straight changeup is his distant fourth pitch. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(85-90), slider(80-85), curve(69-73), changeup(76-80)

George Sherrill, LHP, closer
George has battled through numerous scary situations to record tons of saves for the O's in '08. He throws a fastball and sweeping curveball as his main weapons. It looks like he's cutting his fastball at times and he's known to try some changeups. 8/12/08 CSJ

*fastball(89-93), curve(76-78), changeup, cutter

Jamie Walker, LHP, reliever
Walker throws lots of soft stuff up there. He has a sweeping slider that he throws the majority of the time. He'll also mix in fastballs and a straight change. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(82-89), slider(71-76), changeup(74-80)

Jim Johnson, RHP, reliever
Jim Johnson throws low-90s fastball out of a quirky delivery. It flies fairly straight but he can spot it decently. Johnson has shown a big breaking curveball as his second pitch. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(93-96), curve(77-81)

Randor Bierd, RHP, reliever
Bierd is a weird dude. He throws a strange sinking fastball and sliders that look like they're hanging. His velocity leaves much to be desired, but batters look extremely confused when facing him. 7/30/08 CSJ

*fastball(83-88), slider(79-82)

Fernando Cabrera, RHP, reliever
Cabrera is a classic fastball/slider reliever. He has decent velocity on his moving fastball and throws a slider off of it. Cabrera was a decent prospect with Cleveland before injury and hype did him in. 8/11/08 CSJ

*fastball(89-93), slider(79-86)

Alberto Castillo, LHP, reliever
Castillo is one of those lefthanders that will try anything to get an out because he has to. His stuff is underwhelming, starting with a fastball that touches 90mph at times. His slider is a big sweeper that will break away from LHs, or dive at the ankles of RHs. Castillo will try a changeup to RHs and has also shown me a slow curve. Castillo's final trick is to drop down and throw his fastball or slider from a sidearm motion. He seems to do this against LHs only. 8/11/08 CSJ

*fastball(85-91), slider(75-81), changeup(80-83), curve(73)

Rocky Cherry, RHP, reliever
Cherry has simply been a fastball/slider pitcher since reaching the majors. His fastball flies fairly straight, while his slider gets big break. 8/30/08 CSJ

*fastball(90-93), slider(81-83)

Lance Cormier, RHP, reliever
Cormier is a fastball/cutter pitcher. He throws a 90mph fastball and a 89mph cutter off of it. The cutter can induce weak groundballs. Cormier deals a 12-6 curveball and has shown a changeup at times. 6/18/08 CSJ

*fastball(88-90), cutter(86-89), curve(76-78), changeup
